What is the difference between ACM and solid aluminium?

Aluminium Composite Material (ACM), sometimes referred to as ACP, consists of two thin aluminium skins bonded to a polyethylene core. It is lightweight, rigid and widely used throughout the signage industry. Solid aluminium is manufactured from a single sheet of aluminium, making it more impact resistant and better suited to harsh outdoor environments, coastal locations and applications requiring maximum longevity.

Why should I choose reflective safety signs?

Do your reflective safety signs comply with Australian Standards?

Our reflective materials are available in grades manufactured to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 1906.1:2017 for retroreflective materials where applicable. Why can I see lines on some reflective signs?

Engineering Grade (Class 100) reflective material has a smooth appearance with no visible prism pattern. Higher-performance prismatic reflective materials, such as Class 400 and Class 1100, contain microscopic prisms that may be visible when viewed up close. This is a normal characteristic of the material and contributes to its increased reflectivity.

Which reflective grade should I choose?

Class 100 is suitable for general commercial and private property signage where good night-time visibility is required. Class 400 (or 400T) provides significantly higher reflectivity and is commonly used for public road signage and traffic management. Class 1100 offers the highest level of retroreflectivity for critical road safety applications including highways, intersections and high-speed environments.

Can I use any reflective sign on public roads?

Aluminium Composite Signs – Custom ACM / ACP Panels

Aluminium Composite Signs, commonly called ACM or ACP signs, combine lightweight panel construction with a smooth face suitable for high-quality printed graphics. They are one of the most versatile rigid substrates used for commercial signage, safety signs, property signs, directional panels and general indoor or outdoor displays.

What is aluminium composite material?

Sign-grade ACM/ACP typically uses thin aluminium skins bonded to a polymer core. A common sign panel construction is around 3mm overall thickness with aluminium skins of approximately 0.21mm, although exact specifications vary between brands and products. The composite construction provides good rigidity without the weight of a solid aluminium sheet.

Printing and finishing options

Panels can be direct digitally printed or fitted with printed, coloured or reflective vinyl. Protective laminates can be added where additional abrasion, cleaning, chemical or UV resistance is required. CNC routing allows rectangles, rounded corners, holes and custom-shaped signs to be produced in-house.

Typical applications

Suitable for shop and business signs, safety signage, property panels, construction signs, parking and directional signage, wall panels, exhibitions and branded displays. Mounting can include screws, rivets, frames, stand-offs or suitable adhesive systems depending on size and surface.

Important fire-performance distinction

ACP contains a core material and should not automatically be treated as equivalent to solid aluminium for fire-rating or certification purposes. Some projects or building locations restrict the use of composite panels. Where fire performance matters, confirm the project specification and consider solid aluminium or another approved substrate.

At Sign Portal, we understand that sometimes issues may arise with your custom signage orders. As our products are tailored specifically to your requirements, we are unable to offer refunds or exchanges for incorrect orders. However, if your item is found to be faulty or was supplied incorrectly, we are happy to accept returns within 30 days of receipt.

To be eligible for a return, your item must remain unused and in the same condition as when it was delivered. The item should also be in its original packaging.

Please include a receipt or proof of purchase when initiating the return.

Proofing Approval

Prior to production, we provide a digital proof of your design for approval. Once you approve the proof and confirm that the design is correct, we move forward with manufacturing. It is your responsibility to carefully review the proof and ensure all details are accurate, including text, colors, and dimensions. After approval, we cannot be held liable for any mistakes or changes, and refunds will not be issued based on customer errors in the proofing process.

Conditions for Partial Refunds (if applicable)

Refunds or exchanges will not be issued in the following circumstances:

The item is no longer in its original condition, has been damaged, or is missing parts due to reasons not caused by us.
Returns made more than 30 days after the item has been delivered.
